It's Snowing!!

We don't get snow that often but in the last few years it seems to be happening more and more. In a way its lovely, pretty to look at but in another it brings home the needs of the community. It definitely makes you more aware of those in your neighbourhood as you work together to clear the pavements, to help older neighbours by getting their shopping and the fun had sharing the sledges with the local children on the nearby hill. So on that thought here are some of our photos of the town in the snow...

Watch out, here we come!

We've got hidden treasure, worth a bucket load of sweets, drinks, crisps and in one instance a dog! Yep you've guessed it we have a sledge and the above items are just a few of the things we were offered by teenagers on the way to our park so that we would sell them it. No chance, not on our life was Littleun going to give it up. The grasp he had was even stronger than the day I foolishly thought it would be clever to try and wash his blanket whilst he was still at home. We were on our way to meet a friend and test the sledge and nothing was going to stop us. Well after some hours eventually the cold and wet did, but what fun it was!

Snow, Again

For those friends of mine who kindly read this and know exactly where I am and remember those infamous words where I said it never snows here well guess what, It's snowing again!!

The World is Ending

No seriously if the local supermarket is to be believed it is! Popped in to get a few ordinary bits and bobs to find that the masses had descended and were buying anything and everything. Whether they needed it or not. I can’t believe that this town has ground to a halt, we’ve only had an inch at most of snow, the main roads at least are clear and even quite a few of the side roads look fine too. Madness!

On a better note I’ve done 7 miles out of my predicted 11 for today and am now having a well earned cup of soup before heading out again. It was a nice walk really, bit arduous (I’m so unfit!) but fun watching the kids in the local park use anything that would slide on the ice if they hadn’t got sledges. I particularly liked the initiative of a kid who had found a blow up crocodile and was bravely balancing on its back down a 1:3 slope! The trees are very pretty in this snow too, though I think the swan might be thinking it’s rather chilly.

Snowed In

My car is currently snowed in and as life has to go on this means I am walking everywhere. I work with accounts and this time of year is very very manic for me and as the tax return deadline fast looms I am having to go out and see clients snow or not! This has meant that so far this week I have managed to walk about 20miles, approximately 19 miles more than normal and I'm so very tired. Tomorrow I have two more clients to see, at complete opposite ends of the town and from littleuns nursery so I'll be covering roughly 11 miles. As anyone who knows me knows, this just ain't good! It's also my excuse for the lack of posts over the next few days, I sadly just won't either have the time or be awake to do regular daily ones. Please forgive me and I'll see you soon!

Brr, its cold...

Its turned rather chilly here and even though we have new double-glazed windows the house doesn't seem to be retaining any heat. Could have something to do with the lack of floorboards though.

In one way I'm hoping that the snow settles, it'll be fun to take the littleun out on the sledge. But in another I hope it doesn't. My sister has to travel from one town to the next 17 miles away each day on a rather dodgy road and I worry for her safety.

It also makes me think of those less fortunate than myself, those who are suffering the cold streets tonight. The nearby Salvation Army are very good but I'm not sure that there are many overnight shelters left in this town. I wish I could do a bit more than the clothing/blanket donations I do do but it is hard to give up time as well as being a single working mum. As we head for the longest night with what appears to be the coldest forecast for a while I'll be giving thanks for my families safety and endeavour to do more to help others.....
